The Deutsche Kinemathek presents its important collections on film history in the Filmhaus at Potsdamer Platz. In addition to that, the Deutsche Kinemathek is responsible for the Retrospective section of the Berlinale, and puts on special exhibitions, film series, colloquia and other events.

The Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (the German Film and Television Academy Berlin) was created in 1966 and is one of the most prestigious and oldest film academies in Germany. Its alumni include Wolfgang Petersen, Helke Sander, Wolfgang Becker, Christian Petzold, Detlev Buck, Thomas Arslan and Chris Kraus. The training offered to students by the DFFB with its relatively limited budget balances teaching the artistic dimensions of filmmaking with understanding the financial and technical production requirements imposed by the market. The DFFB focuses on teaching the four basic fields of filmmaking: screenplay, directing, camera and production. No more than 34 students are admitted each year.&nbsp;

The aim and purpose of the Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art is to share and appreciate international film culture: At the interface between theory and practice, Arsenal provides a space for thinking creatively about film and for broader culture. In the movie theater the focus is on independent and experimental filmmaking and, as an interconnected platform for communication, we promote dynamic interaction between film, study and art. The program on offer includes international film weeks, retrospectives and tributes, classics of film history, seminars and symposiums and premieres with directors and producers.
